small windshield

Mr jason.

I'm curious about the design of this loco......do you think that the train engineer able to clearly see things in front of him......because for me, the windshield is too small for average person to see, say signal ahead. seems that he has to shift constantly between the left and right windshield for better view. Why do the loco manufacturer do that? must be reasons for that, which, unfortunately, i have no idea bout that.

I had the same questions few years back. Ofcourse it's very difficult for the driver, that's why they have a fireman to check on the signals. This YDM loco design very old la. Modern locomotives dont have high nose cab anymore. But you would be surprised how spacious the cab is compared to other classs.

Actually

from inside the cab, its a good view as the driver is always looking far ahead. Of course short hood is better than long hood forward.
